Phase 1: PIP Ideation Stage

During this initial phase, authors present their ideas to the community for early feedback and discussion. This helps identify potential issues and gauge community interest

1️⃣ Share Your Ideas: Post a concept you’d like the DAO to consider for approval. 2️⃣ Collaborate: Provide feedback, suggestions, and improvements on others’ ideas. 3️⃣ Show Support: Give a 👍 to ideas you want to see progress to the next stage (Draft). The pip-idea forum is the first step in creating a POLIS Improvement Proposal (PIP).

⚠️ Important: Ideas must receive at least 25 thumbs-up (👍) to move to the Draft phase.

Guidelines for Posting Ideas,

Before posting, consider these key points:

  • Be Concrete—If your idea is still a rough sketch, start the conversation in 📜┃dao-chat instead. This forum is for ideas with substance—one-liners belong in 📜┃dao-chat.

  • Take Ownership—Don’t expect others to carry your idea forward. The success of your proposal depends on you—your passion and dedication will drive it.

  • Embrace Discussion—Use this space to explore the merits, structure, costs, and funding sources of your proposal.

  • Fill in the Blanks—Use the wisdom of the crowd! Remember: If your idea gets 25 thumbs up, you’ll are allowed to turn it into a formal draft. But are you really ready for that? PIP Drafts have to follow the structure laid out in our knowledge base (see link above), addressing topics such as implementation details, budget, and timeline. Use the time to ideate on such aspects with the community.

Tips for Success,

Here are some tips to improve your odds greatly:

Structure Matters

As a PIP Idea poster, you have two main objectives:

  • Get pending questions answered,

  • Encourage community support to reach 25 thumbs-up.,

Structure your posts so that you have the best chance at success. Clearly mark the questions you need answered & sell your idea!

Leverage the Community for the Implementation

  • If you need help from a—yet to be identified— 3rd party to actually implement your idea, clearly state this! Allow the community to help you find the right person/company for the job (be it paid, or for free).,

  • Tag or DM relevant community members who you believe may be able to help, explaining why you’re reaching out. Be respectful and avoid over-tagging!,

Keep Posts Updated

Edit your original post as your idea evolves, so new readers can jump straight to commenting on it. This ensures newcomers can easily catch up without reading every comment.

Answers First, Thumbs-up Later

Focus on refining your idea first. Once all major questions are answered, shift your focus to gathering thumbs-up. If you start promoting too early, when questions remain unanswered, you risk losing people (been there, read that, next).

Promote Strategically

  • Share your idea on Discord in the 📜┃dao-chat, relevant discussions, and even on X and social media,

  • If you belong to a DAC, reach out there to gather support.,

Stay Within Discord

Avoid sharing crucial information via attachments or external links, as some folks may prefer not to click them. For lengthy content, break it into multiple concise posts for better readability.

Council’s Role,

The Council has no formal role in this channel but is available for questions about the process or PIP structure.

⚠️ Note that, while a Council member may chime in on your idea, they won't:

  • Promote your idea.

  • Help you gather thumbs-up.

  • Solve challenges unrelated to the Legislative Process or PIP structure.

The Council is a neutral party. Their role officially begins with reviewing Drafts. Until then, the responsibility for your idea’s progress rests with you.
