This guide walks you through creating and submitting your first Polis Improvement Proposal (PIP) in the Star Atlas DAO.
Overview
The PIP process takes place primarily in the Star Atlas Discord server, within the dedicated DAO section. A successful PIP moves through three distinct phases before implementation:
Ideation Phase - Initial concept development and community feedback
Draft Phase - Formal proposal writing and refinement
Voting Phase - Community decision through governance framework voting

The Three Phases Explained
Phase 1: PIP Ideation
During this initial phase, authors present their ideas to the community for early feedback and discussion. This helps identify potential issues and gauge community interest before investing time in a full proposal.
Phase 2: PIP Draft
Once an idea has received positive feedback, authors develop a comprehensive draft following the standard PIP template. This draft undergoes community review and council revision.
Phase 3: PIP Vote
After the draft is finalized, the council will recommend approval from the foundation, and the proposal moves to an official governance vote where DAO members can cast their votes to approve or reject the PIP.
