🪙Treasury

The assets in the DAO's treasury are subject to management via the DAO's governance processes.

The DAO’s treasury is managed by the DAO through on-chain governance mechanisms. Any funds that the DAO decides to send off-chain may be deployed by entities such as the Star Atlas Foundation, but only after receiving on-chain approval by the DAO and subject to the direction of the DAO. The DAO’s treasury is funded by proceeds from what amounts to taxation on transactions in the ecosystem, consistent with the parameters set forth in the Star Atlas Economics Paper.

The DAO Treasury Dashboard gives visibility into all Star Atlas DAO assets. This page enables the Star Atlas community to make informed decisions about the future of the Star Atlas metaverse and ensure transparent and accountable DAO management.

Accounts

* The Ecosystem Fund was moved to a separate account after PIP-4 passed for easier accounting.

Income Streams

The ATMTA team has kindly created several income streams for the DAO, to seed its treasury. This initially started with R4 Sales.

Old Streams

The following income streams are no longer available:

📈 Team R4 Sales

100% of primary R4 sales — Until SAGE Labs rolled out, Faction Fleet (SCORE) players had to purchase R4 (in ATLAS) to upkeep their staked ship. The team offered R4 sales on their Galactic Marketplace using the NPC public key. All proceeds were periodically swept to the primary DAO treasury.

Active Period

This was active between December 16th, 2021—coinciding with the launch of the SCORE—and June 8th, 2023—coinciding with a big boost in Claim Stake & Escape Velocity output + shuttering of primary R4 sales.

Current Streams

The following income streams are currently active:

📈 Marketplace Fees

33% of royalty fees in the Star Atlas Galactic Marketplace — Galactic Marketplace fees for each transaction are transferred to a fees account as part of the transaction. This account is periodically swept, with one-third of the balance sent to the DAO treasury account and the rest sent to ATMTA.

Active Period

This has been active since September 29th, 2022, coinciding with the launch of the ATLAS Locker.

📈 IP Project Royalty Fees

Once an IP licensee generates more than $1 million USD in lifetime Gross Revenue with their project, they will need to start paying Royalty Rates for any Gross Revenue beyond the $1 million USD exclusion. Of that fee, 5% will go to the DAO.

Note that no community project has reached this stage yet.

Active Period

This has been active since April 26, 2023, coinciding with the launch of the IP Program.

📈 Crafting Fees

100% of crafting fees from Star Atlas Golden Era (SAGE) game mode.

Active Period

This has been active since September 21st, 2023, coinciding with the mainnet launch of SAGE Labs.

Future Streams [Planned]

The following income streams are planned to go live at some point in the future:

📈 Rental Fees

5% of the revenue from the Star Atlas ship rental program.

Expense Stream

Foundation - $100k - Annually

As per PIP-2, the DAO sets aside an annual budget of (up to) $100,000 USD from its treasury for the operations and maintenance of the Star Atlas Foundation, including director fees—supervisor, registered office, and secretary services—and other expenses (including legal fees and other services necessary for operations).

Any further costs beyond basic operations and maintenance, including to retain additional service providers, shall require on-chain approval by the Star Atlas DAO in advance.

Ecosystem Fund

Through PIP-4, the DAO established a fund and process for community members to apply for grants to develop various aspects of Star Atlas. It was seeded with a budget of 20% of the Star Atlas DAO’s ATLAS treasury.

Some examples of efforts that could be funded under this proposal include:

  • Creating software tools that enhance player experiences

  • Hosting community in-person or virtual meetups

  • Supporting educational or informational initiatives to grow the Star Atlas community

  • Building new creative works or materials — such as videos, art, or music — based on Star Atlas intellectual property

Other types of efforts could be funded as well, as long as they relate to the development or improvement of Star Atlas, and as long as the product or experience is open to all Star Atlas community members (rather than, for example, benefiting only one guild or faction).
