The DAOโs treasury is managed by the DAO through on-chain governance mechanisms. Any funds that the DAO decides to send off-chain may be deployed by entities such as the Star Atlas Foundation, but only after receiving on-chain approval by the DAO and subject to the direction of the DAO. The DAOโs treasury is funded by proceeds from what amounts to taxation on transactions in the ecosystem, consistent with the parameters set forth in the Star Atlas Economics Paper.

The ATMTA team has kindly created several income streams for the DAO, to seed its treasury. This initially started with R4 Sales.

As per PIP-2, the DAO sets aside an annual budget of (up to) $100,000 USD from its treasury for the operations and maintenance of the Star Atlas Foundation, including director feesโsupervisor, registered office, and secretary servicesโand other expenses (including legal fees and other services necessary for operations).
Any further costs beyond basic operations and maintenance, including to retain additional service providers, shall require on-chain approval by the Star Atlas DAO in advance.
Through PIP-4, the DAO established a fund and process for community members to apply for grants to develop various aspects of Star Atlas. It was seeded with a budget of 20% of the Star Atlas DAOโs ATLAS treasury.
Some examples of efforts that could be funded under this proposal include:
Creating software tools that enhance player experiences
Hosting community in-person or virtual meetups
Supporting educational or informational initiatives to grow the Star Atlas community
Building new creative works or materials โ such as videos, art, or music โ based on Star Atlas intellectual property
Other types of efforts could be funded as well, as long as they relate to the development or improvement of Star Atlas, and as long as the product or experience is open to all Star Atlas community members (rather than, for example, benefiting only one guild or faction).
