PIP Mechanics & Voting
In the Star Atlas DAO legislative process, there are currently two vote-escrowed voting mechanisms:
Simple Majority: Voters choose to either approve, reject, or abstain from a proposal. This is typically used for straightforward decisions requiring clear consensus.
Single Transferable Vote (STV): Voters rank available options in order of preference. Your full POLIS Voting Power (PVP) initially supports your top choice, but if that option reaches the required threshold or is eliminated, your voting power automatically transfers to your next preferred choice. STV proposals can't be directly rejected, so they usually follow an initial Simple Majority vote that approves moving forward with multiple-choice voting.
Your Vote
Understanding how your vote is registered and counted is important:
You can cast your vote multiple times while a PIP is open for voting; only your most recent vote will be counted.
Even if your voting choice doesn't change, there are other reasons to recast your vote, which we'll discuss below.
When you vote, your effective PVP is determined by checking your current PVP and applying the same formula used by the Locker to project what your PVP will be at the exact moment voting closes. As a result, your effective PVP may be slightly lower than when you initially cast your vote.
There are two key reasons to recast your vote:
If you lock additional POLIS tokens after your initial vote.
If you extend the locking duration of your existing POLIS tokens.
Note: These actions must occur after your initial vote and before the PIP voting window closes.
